Abstract: 

Detecting marine vessels can be achieved by analyzing the magnetic disturbances they create within the Earth's magnetic field. This research introduces a laboratory-scale Drive-in-inspired system, designed and built using Helmholtz coils, a solenoid, and a linear array of magnetic sensors. To assess the effectiveness of a deperming procedure, two samples made of ST37 steel – a plate and a hollow cylinder – were utilized. ST37 is a high-strength, low-carbon steel widely used in marine and construction applications, and it is a typical soft hull material for submarines. To isolate the magnetic signature stemming from the samples' permanent magnetization, their induced magnetic signature was initially characterized through both experimental measurements and simulations using COMSOL software, with a strong correlation observed between the two. The deperming process was then implemented using the Deperm-ME method, which involved applying a magnetic field with a decreasing amplitude tailored to the demagnetization factor of each sample. The findings revealed that this deperming process resulted in a significant reduction of 95% and 92% in the permanent magnetization of the steel plate and the hollow cylinder, respectively. These results highlight the efficacy of the Deperm-ME method within a Drive-in deperming setup.

Abstract: 

Before the occurrence of Northridge earthquake, it was believed that the conventional connections used in steel moment frame structures were capable of tolerating the great plastic rotation of 0. 02 radians and above without a significant reduction in strength. Observation of the applied damages by the 1991 Northridge earthquake showed that the main damage was in the area of welded connections. For this reason and the weakness in welded connections, the idea of using the link area in steel connections has been proposed, which can be easily replaced after an earthquake. Therefore, in this study, the box-shaped linking element has been developed, which acts practically independent of the applied load and has a steady hysteresis behavior under tension and compression. In this research, laboratory numerical study has been conducted RBS connection using the box-shaped replaceable link at the joint formation site. For this purpose, first a validation based on a laboratory model has been performed in Abaqus software. In the following, models based on the validation paper have been developed and the idea of using a box-shaped link has been proposed. Two models have been developed and analyzed in Abaqus software and two laboratory models have been examined experimentally. Two links with different details were placed in the area of reduced joint to reduce the beam section. The results show that very high stress concentration occurs in the box-shaped link area and other parts of the beam and column elements of the stress surface are less than the yield point and energy absorption is done in the box-shaped link area. It was also found that according to the maximum rotation recorded in the specimens and according to the AISC regulations, specimen A is one of the allowable connections in the middle frame and, model B has the necessary conditions to be placed in the permitted connections in a special moment frame (tolerating rotation of above 0. 04 radians).

Abstract: 

Background: Research project risks are uncertain contingent events or situations that, if transpire, will have positive or negative effects on objectives of a project. The Management of Health and Safety at Work (MHSW) Regulations 1999 require all employers and the self-employed persons to assess the risks from their work on anyone who may be affected by their activities. Risk assessment is the first step in risk-management procedure, and due to its importance, it has been deemed to be a vital process while having a unique place in the researchbased management systems. Methods: In this research, a two-pronged study was carried out. Firstly, health and safety issues were studied and analyzed by means of ISO 14121. Secondly, environmental issues were examined with the aid of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis. Both processes were utilized to determine the risk level independently for each research laboratory and corrective measure priorities in each field (laboratory). Results: Data analysis showed that the total main and inherent risks in laboratory sites reduced by 38% to 86%. Upon comparing the average risk levels before and after implementing the control and protective actions utilizing risk management approaches which were separate from health, safety and environmental aspects, a highly effective significance (p<0. 001) was obtained for inherent risk reduction. Analysis of health, safety and environmental control priorities with the purpose of comparing the ratio of the number of engineering measures to the amount of management ones showed a relatively significant increase. Conclusion: The large number of engineering measures was attributed to the employment of a variety of timeworn machinery (old technologies) along with using devices without basic protection components.

Abstract: 

Primary core of Germi has been developed on the relative flat topographic space, but due to the land limitations, these days, this town is frequently (over 70%) developing in the high steep slopes (8 to 30 degrees). Active faults of the region and the presence of unresisting superficial and deposits and geological formations have caused instability of the urban constructions formation especially in the east and north east of this small city. In addition, the subsidence phenomena and cracks in foundations, due to deposit silts with the high percentage of clay and with high shear steers, have seriously threatened urban constructions. The large land slide in the 1995 destroyed some about the 250 residuals, hospitals and schools in the eastern slope of the town in the Katol district which led to obligatory replacing of some residuals. According to the research findings, out of whole urban land use (449.4 ha), 145.5 of them (32.4%) is located in the unsuitable to completely high risk zones. Therefore, occurrence of any earthquake stronger than 5.5 with Richter Scale, landslides, subsidence phenomena, subsidence liquefactions, and environmental hazards of geomorphic phenomena, result in crakes, movement and instability of soil formation, and the destruction of the constructions in the slopes.

Abstract: 

In this study the undrained shear strength of soft soils of Uromieh Lake Bridge site is measured by CPTu and compared with the results of laboratory tests conducted on undisturbed and remolded samples. The CPTu tests conducted in 8 boreholes up to 100m. Unconfined compression test conducted on the undisturbed samples from the depth 20 to 30 m showed 0.3 to 0.4 kg/cm2 for undrained shear strength; meanwhile they are resulted 0.4 to 0.7 kg/cm2 from CPTu tests for the same depths. In spite of the undisturbed samples are obtained by thin wall tubes, but a reduction in strength due to sample disturbance are appeared. This reduction is about 30 to 70 percent. The results of remolded samples showed about 0.1 to 0.12 kg/cm2 for undrained shear strength. The difference between these values and the values resulted from undisturbed samples is about 4 times and the value of CPTu tests is about 5 times. Therefore the soft soils of Uromieh Lake are sensitive and in situ tests like CPTu is suitable and reliable for testing of them.

Abstract: 

Most organizations in urban and urban structures in Ardabil embark on authority project planning and land use almost without scientific consideration of environmental potential, which does not conform to urban sustainable development. According to the soils physical analysis results, Liquid Limit and Plasticity Index of central and eastern part of the city are high. Also, due to the granolometric results of soil formation, there are high percentages of Clay, silt in the unresisting Quaternary alluvial and marl formation in the urban site. Therefore, high extension sensitive soil, silt and marl, gel fraction, capillarity frost heaving in some regions of Ardabil cause land subsidence, emergence of Creek, fussier and titling the structures walls and foundations and caused to intensive distraction of streets Asphalt. On the other hand, steepness of geology layers and topographic, influence of Neo-tectonic, and active micro faults, in the western parts of the city (Carshnasan and Cosar and Dadgostary) make the region a potentially high risk area. It is suggested, that urban sustainable planning must be undertaken with systematic study of site Geology, hydro-geomorphology and a prediction of probable problems.

Abstract: 

Introduction: Nowadays, various antibiotics and antiseptics are used as locally delivered adjuncts to scaling and root planing (SRP) in the treatment of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of xanthan-based CHLO-SITE gel (xan-CHX) as a local adjunctive therapy to SRP in the treatment of moderate-to-severe periodontitis.Materials and Methods: In this controlled clinical trial, 6 patients with moderate-to-severe chronic periodontitis were selected. Each subject had at least three pockets 4-7 mm deep. Twenty-eight randomly selected pockets were assigned to the control group and 44 pockets were assigned to the test group. Scaling and root planing (SRP) procedures were carried out in all the pockets. In the test group, in addition to SRP, xan-CHL gel was injected into the pockets. Clinical indices (PPD, CAL, BOP, PI) before and three months after treatment were measured and evaluated by paired t-test, chi-squared and Kruskal-Wallis testes using SPSS software.Results: At baseline, there were no significant differences between the control and experimental sites in relation to the indices measured. After 3 mouths, means of PPD and BOP in the experimental sites were significantly lower compared to control sites (p value£0.05). Mean of CAL in the experimental sites was significantly higher than that in control sites (p value£0.05).Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that injection of xan-CHL gel with SRP has better clinical efficacy than SRP alone in the treatment of periodontitis.
